About Me

Alex Reed

Yoga Teacher

WHO IS GOOD LIFE YOGA?

I’m Alex Reed and I started Good Life Yoga in 2013 in order to share my passion for yoga with people who need some balance in their busy lives. It is my secret weapon against stress, anxiety and aging! Keeping strong and flexible in mind and body is proven to help us live longer and more fulfilling lives. In my practice and classes I try to bring a fresh thought to each session – to find curiosity and genuine interest in what is happening in our minds and bodies on the mat.

A little background…

My passion for movement began in dance classes which I started in my teens, I have a BA Hons degree in Dance & Media Studies (yes you can really do that). I then worked in TV production for 20 years, neglected my body and discovered stress! Luckily about half way through I also discovered yoga. On Sunday mornings I attended class at my local leisure centre taught by an incredible teacher in her 70s called Vicky Scarlet, who used her practice to fix and repair her body even when the doctors told her it was impossible. She was a British Wheel of Yoga teacher, so even though I had tried many different schools of yoga, when I realized I wanted to teach, I went straight to the BWY and signed up for their two year Level 4 Diploma in Teaching Yoga. Ten years later, I still love teaching yoga, particularly in a live group setting and especially on retreat, somewhere warm and sunny.

Alongside my teaching, I now work for the BWY as Digital Communications Officer, which means I create and publish content for their website, emails and social media. It’s a wonderful way to combine my passion for yoga and skills from working in the media.

My personal practice is influenced by some incredible teachers who were students of an innovative Italian yoga teacher called Vanda Scaravelli. She took traditional yoga practices deep into her own body and guided her students to do the same. Inspired by the youthfulness, joy for life and twinkle in the eye of these teachers I try to practice and teach with fresh eyes and an open mind each time, guided by the bodies and personalities in the room. My goal is to stay young as long as possible and help my students find their joy and youthful spirit too.

The British Wheel of Yoga is the governing body for yoga in the UK and offers workshops and training for students and teachers.  I highly recommend becoming a member - it’s not just for teachers.
